At first glance, Bit Babe looks like a jewelry brand. And yes, we make jewelry. But that’s not what inspired me to create it.
I started it because learning about money changed the way I see the world. I know that sounds dramatic. But it's true.
For most of my life I never questioned money. I worked for it, saved it, spent it, and tried to be responsible with it. I figured I understood it because I used it every single day. Then a few years ago I started actually asking questions. What is money, really? Why does everything keep costing more? Why does saving feel like running on a treadmill? And why did nobody ever teach me any of this?
Most of us never ask these kind of questions. We spend our whole lives working for money and never actually study what it is.
That realization messed with my head a little. Not just about finances, but about how I think in general. It made me more willing to question stuff I'd just accepted. It helped me to be okay with saying "I don't actually know enough about this yet." And that carried over into other parts of my life too; my career, my health, how I parent, even how I make decisions.
That's really where Bit Babe came from. I wanted to build something where women could ask the bigger questions without feeling silly for not already knowing the answers. Learning about money shouldn't feel like a club that you have to qualify for before you're allowed to ask questions. You don't need an econ degree. You just have to be willing to ask uncomfortable questions.
The jewelry part came in because I've always thought the things we wear mean something. A necklace that reminds you of someone. A ring that stands for a promise you made. Something you reach for on a hard day. I wanted pieces that stood for curiosity. Jewelry that stood for thinking long-term, for being willing to see things differently than everyone around you.
Some designs nod to Bitcoin. Some don't. That's on purpose. This was never about getting everyone to agree with me, it's about women getting curious enough to figure things out for themselves.
I think about this even more now as a mom. I don't need my daughter to inherit my exact opinions about money. What I actually want to give her is the confidence to ask questions, keep learning, and think for herself instead of just accepting what she's told.
If Bit Babe helps even a few more women do that, it's already more than a jewelry brand to me.
Because changing your life doesn't usually start with having all the answers. Sometimes it starts with asking a better question.
